About the Legions of the Underground

The world famous Legions of the Underground consists of members from around the world. Started in 1994, the LoU has seen it's share of ups and downs, and it has had many members come and go. One thing remains, and that is the common bond between members to enjoy computers, networking, and life. The LoU has many credits to it's name, such as helping define cyberwarfare, and publicizing hacktivism, but the group has grown past that. From charity work to professional expertise, the LoU has been there, done that, and forged ahead.

Life for the LoU is not quite as exciting today as it once was. Instead of conducting illegal activities, most of the LoU has either moved on from computing, or assumed jobs in the information security industry. Lending their love of figuring things out to a growing industry is very exciting, and it keeps most of the members out of trouble. Instead of hacking sites, members tend to write whitepapers, or get involved with other organizations.

Due to these developments, the group has kept out of the mainstream for several years. Even still, the group is far from normal. Members often assume dangerous hobbies, or find other ways to entertain themselves. Often the group decides to shack up with one another, which leads to funny living situations that can range from misplaced toilet paper to misplaced mainframes, to a good old fashioned game of "own the roommate".

Even still, as the group grows and matures, the LoU still manages to make the pilgrimage to Las Vegas once a year for Defcon. At Defcon, the old chops become dusted off, the livers come out of storage, and old friends are once again found.

All in all, the Legions of the Underground are here to stay, and with that said, bring on the future... it's certainly looking bright.
